How to be a happy wife: step one

We’ve all heard the saying happy wife, happy life. And for the most part, I believe this is probably true. Trust me, I’ve given my fair share of temper-tantrums and watched my husband’s mood go from 10 to 1 – Examples: 1) When he ate the last brownie I had been saving for myself and 2) when he wouldn’t let me adopt a free kitten someone posted on Facebook. I’ll let you play those scenarios out in your head. I’ve also seen his mood go from 1 to 10 because of my happiness – Examples: 1) when I found out I passed my last CPA exam and he did a happy dance with me for no less than 20 minutes and 2) when he realized how happy calligraphy made me and he bought me more calligraphy pens.

We’ve also heard you are responsible for your own happiness.” And, for the most part, I believe this is also true.

Yes, I get a lot of happiness from my husband. He brings me so much joy that I never knew I could have. We go on dates, we joke around, we comfort each other. Loving him and feeling his reciprocating love is the greatest gift God could have given me. But being in love does not provide me with the existential happiness I crave in this world.

But what does that mean? How do we get there?

My answer: become someone that has a purpose in this world. Find what you love to do, and do it big. Do it proudly. Do it with your whole heart.

I have discovered my passion and through it I have found a purpose for myself. A purpose to inspire you and to empower you, all while bringing you closer to our Heavenly Father, for none of this would be possible without Him.

In my mind, the key to a fulfilling life is one that finds the beautiful balance between being inspired and being inspiring. I vow to never stop searching for inspiration, which in turn, will bring happiness. I hope to be just as inspired by you as you are by me. We won’t get there unless we help each other. So today, right now, I’m asking you to find yourself. Find your purpose. Find your passion.

And do it.

“For thou, Lord, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumpth in the works of thy hands. O Lord, how great are thy works!” – Psalm 92:4-5
